In parking lots or roadways
where the pavement surface displays signifcant linear cracking
(also known as “Alligatoring”) we may propose
a Petromat Overlay. Petromat is a polypropylene nonwoven needle-punched
fabric which becomes an interlayer system when it is combined
during installation with an asphalt cement tack or hot oil
coat of approximately 0.25 gallon per square yard.
The heat
and pressure of an asphalt concrete overlay
draws the asphalt cement tack or hot oil coat
up into the Petromat forming an asphalt saturated
fabric interlayer. This properly installed Petromat
fabric layer becomes a moisture barrier in the
pavement, minimizing surface water infiltration.
Use of Petromat helps to prevent reflection
cracking, or the return of the “Alligatoring”
that often occurs if a non-Petromat Overlay
is used.
